Rusty Flack was a founding member of The Luzerne Foundation, long-time board member and community philanthropist. In his honor, The Rusty Flack Society is made up of supporters who have made known to The Foundation their intent to include The Foundation in their estate planning.

This event is a means of saying “Thank You” to Rusty Flack Society Members and includes those individuals, other fund holders and major donors of the organization. It is an informal event. Refreshments are served and a short program (approximately 10 minutes) will occur at 6 p.m.

A premiere event in the community, the Annual Nonprofit Forum provides a means for community nonprofits to share their stories and present their needs. Originally started as a means for the Grant Committee of The Luzerne Foundation to learn more, it has expanded each year. It is free and open to the public giving individuals, donors and other funding organizations a convenient way to hear from many organizations in one day.

During the Nonprofit Forum, area organizations have 5 minutes to present the need/program for which they are seeking funding. The nonprofits represent Social Services, Education and Scholarships, Arts and Culture, Neighborhoods and Community Development, Youth Issues, Historic Preservation and the Environment, and Health and Wellness.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”YAC Annual Dinner” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:25px|text_align:left|color:%2384b347″ google_fonts=”font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]When: April 28, 2019

In its sixth year, the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is comprised of 35 students from 11 area schools who spend the year completing assignments such as a community needs assessment, reviewing grant requests, doing site visits and the awarding of grants. Additionally, the group raises funds, plans events and solicits potential donors.

The group learns the fundamentals of philanthropy as they begin to understand the many and varying needs in the community and the, sometimes, difficult responsibility of deciding who is most deserving of funding. This is a hands-on group that looks at needs up close.

The culmination of The Luzerne Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, this dinner is a first for The Foundation- which has never-before held an annual fundraising dinner – and it will not be repeated (at least until the 30th Anniversary.) During this celebration, honors will be bestowed upon the Founding Board Members; the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) will present their grants and announce new members; and twenty-five (25) $5,000 and one $25,000 grant will be awarded to community organizations. The Fund for Luzerne County, the very first fund of The Luzerne Foundation, will be featured though retelling of the impact grants from this fund have made over the past 25 years.
