This fund will support the Luzerne County SHINE program. Schools and Homes in Education (SHINE) is a successful, nationally recognized after school program that focuses on project-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activities for students in grades K-8 and encompasses a variety of STEM disciplines, such as engineering, computing environmental science, alternative energy, biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Students are also exposed to the arts. The program partners and participants will include, but are not limited to, Wilkes University the educational host, the Luzerne Intermediate Unit #18 (LIU 18) as a school facilitator, the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) as the food and meal provider as well as many other organizations and vendors as needed to fully implement the comprehensive, innovative education program.
