The Mary Morenko (Lane) Memorial Fund was established by Mary’s son and daughter in loving memory of her dedication to her family and the importance of education.

Mary was raised in Edwardsville, PA and attended high school in the Wyoming Valley, now known as the Wyoming Valley West School District. The daughter of a local coal miner, she married and had four children. It was only after her fourth child that Mary returned to school at night at the University of Maryland to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degree in English literature and ultimately her Ph.D.

Although Mary lived outside of the Wyoming Valley for most of her life, she never forgot her roots in “west side,” most specifically Edwardsville, Kingston, Pringle, and Plymouth, Pennsylvania.
