Coughlin High School Student Athletes to Salute Joe Moran on his 90th Birthday

Save the Date: May 20th, 2023

Coach Joe Moran is celebrating his ninetieth birthday in March, 2023, an accomplishment in itself.  During discussions among the many athletes he coached throughout his 12 year career it became clear that Coach Moran had a significant influence on all players and their success in life.  His effort in assisting them in achieving their goals after high school, whether it was attending college, pursuing college athletic scholarships, joining the military, or pursuing careers in a variety of occupations was most significant.  His work with young people simply did not end when the seasons were over.

Several members from various teams he coached recently met, formed a Coach Joe Moran Birthday Celebration Committee and agreed to sponsor a birthday celebration for Coach Moran as their way of saying thank you.  Therefore, the Committee would like to invite all student athletes from the football and track teams he coached from 1960 to 1972 to join us to celebrate Coach Moran’s 90th Birthday.   The Committee also realizes Coach Moran has touched many lives throughout Wyoming Valley, a lifelong resident of Wilke-Barre, serving  as a teacher  and educational and community leader in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.  Therefore, the Committee is also extending this invitation to the people of Wilkes-Barre and the greater Wyoming Valley who would like attend this milestone celebration.  However, reservations will be limited to 200 attendees.

Coach Moran’s 90th Birthday Celebration will be held at a dinner on Saturday, May 20, 2023, beginning at 5 PM at the Amber Palace located at 228 George Avenue in the Parsons Section of Wilkes-Barre.  The cost of a ticket will be $60.00 per person.  The event  will include a cocktail hour (cash bar) and hot hors d’oeuvres; followed by a buffet dinner, to include salad, pasta course, dessert, coffee/tea service and soft drinks.  The Luzerne  Foundation will be assisting with the sale of tickets to the banquet.  Ticket sales will close on May 10, 2023.  Proceeds from this event will be used to support the Joseph A. Moran Scholarship Fund managed by the Luzerne Foundation since  its inception in 2006.
