Now Accepting Scholarship Applications

Who should apply? Candidates must meet the following criteria:

THIS AWARD IS LIMITED TO STUDENTS OF ARCHITECTURE AND, EXCEPT IN THE OPINION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE, DOES NOT INCLUDE FIELDS OF INTERIOR DESIGN/ARCHITECTURE & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE.

Monies from this Fund will be awarded as a non-renewable scholarship, annually, to EITHER:

  1. ANY “local” area student(s) who have received their high school diploma, and/or received a 2-year Associate Degree and have been admitted into AND ARE ATTENDING any NAAB accredited (or NAAB Candidate) Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture program.
  2. ANY STUDENT ATTENDING A “LOCAL” NAAB ACCREDITED (OR NAAB-CANDIDATE) BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE OR MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM.
The term “local” shall include permanent residence OR LOCATION in any of the following nine counties of Pennsylvania:
 
    • Bradford
    • Columbia
    • Lackawanna
    • Luzerne
    • Pike
    • Sullivan
    • Susquehanna
    • Wayne
    • Wyoming
Candidates must also possess the will and the ability to successfully pursue a college career, and have the academic ability, talent, and economic need for assistance in meeting tuition expenses in pursuit of an architectural degree. All of these factors will be considered for the selection of the scholarship recipients. Should there be no appropriate current student who has applied for the scholarship award for a particular year, then, at the discretion of the NEPA AIA Board of Directors, the annual award may then be given to an advance student who previously has received this scholarship.
A fully completed scholarship application and required supporting materials (see Required Attachments on page 4) must be submitted by Friday, July 1, 2022.
 

Submission Requirements:

In order to streamline the submission process we have included the following instructions.

All applicants will submit a folder labeled with their name and will include the supporting materials for the application process. 

Required Supporting Materials:

In addition to the two-page application form, your application folder must contain:

  1. A copy of your unofficial transcript from your present or most recently attended college or university.
  2. A personal statement in 2 pages or less, (typed in 12-pitch with 1inch margins) on “What I can contribute to the architectural community of NEPA.” Your statement should include information that would help us in knowing you and in determining your eligibility or need, especially in recognition of the eligibility criteria for this scholarship (example: what factors influenced your desire to study architecture, how you are financing your education; previous work experience; and reasons for choosing your professional or future goals.)
  3. A sample architectural portfolio (A digital submission uploaded via Dropbox). Please provide high resolution (300dpi) digital images in JPEG or TIFF format only. Maximum acceptable size is 11” x 17”.

Compress the file folder for submission using the following process:

PCs

  1. Locate the file or folder that you want to zip.
  2. Press and hold (or right-click) the file or folder, select (or point to) Send to, and then select Compressed (zipped) folder. A new zipped folder with the same name is created in the same location.

Mac

  1. Select the file or folder in the Finder.
  2. Right-click or control-click on the file to bring up the pop-up menu.
  3. Select Compress filename.

This Fund was established in 2003 by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects to build an endowment and provide scholarships to worthy and qualified college students from Northeastern Pennsylvania to pursue the study of architecture. Since 2007, the Fund has awarded scholarships to students attending Schools of Architecture at MIT, Philadelphia University and Temple University.
 
The NEPA Chapter of the AIA Scholarship Fund of The Luzerne Foundation, established and funded by members of the NEPA Chapter of American Institute of Architects (“AIA”) is encouraging qualified candidates from your school to apply for scholarship assistance.  Since the scholarship was created in 2007, more than $55,000 has been distributed to qualified, deserving architectural students whose primary residence lies within the qualifying counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
