Pickering Society

Colonel Timothy Pickering served in the Revolutionary Army, was a Massachusetts State Legislator, U.S. Senator, Secretary of State and Secretary of War under President George Washington. Moreover, in 1786 Colonel Pickering was instrumental with creating Luzerne County, the region that we call home.

His legacy, and particularly the essential role he played in forming the region we call home, resulted in our creating The Luzerne Foundation’s Colonel Timothy Pickering Legacy Society. His historical importance, not only to this area but the entire United States, illustrates perfectly that regardless of our achievements, times and lives pass and society improves through people with imagination, intelligence, boldness and personal sacrifice.
