Millennium Circle Fund $20,000 Grant awarded to Commission on Economic Opportunity's Dinners for Kids

(Luzerne, PA) The Millennium Circle Fund of The Luzerne Foundation will present a $20,000 grant to Commission on Economic Opportunity for the “Dinner for Kids” program. The organization was chosen from seventeen initial grant nominations which were narrowed down to six finalists at the Millennium Circle’s 2011 Annual Luncheon.

During the Annual Luncheon, a representative from each of the six nonprofit finalists presented to almost 200 Millennium Circle members and guests how the $20,000 grant would help their organization and by extension the community. Only Millennium Circle members could vote on which charity should receive the grant.

As David Tevet, program originator, told the attendees, “Dinners For Kids fights childhood hunger and improves children’s health with a program that is simple in concept, cost effective, practical in application, proven by results, and easily replicable. We are currently serving 50 children. There are many more children in the Wyoming Valley who need our services, but appropriate funding is necessary to make it a reality.”

The Millennium Circle Fund of the Luzerne Foundation was created by a special group of donors whose gifts of $2,000 to the Fund play a pivotal role in helping The Luzerne Foundation identify significant unmet community needs. The ultimate goal is to have 2,000 members and a fund that would present community grants totaling $200,000 or more each year.
