Chairman's Message
As we gather to celebrate the 17th anniversary of The Luzerne Foundation, I am both grateful and amazed at the support our community has for improving our quality of life today and securing the same for generations to come. That is The Foundation's mission - to help people create funds to do good things today and lasting good for tomorrow. Your unrestricted gifts to The Fund for Luzerne County have enabled The Foundation to provide grants to the seven key areas essential to a growing and thriving community: Social Services Education and Scholarships Arts and Culture Neighborhoods and Community Development Youth Issues Historic Preservation and the Environment Health and Wellness
During the Annual Meeting and Community Celebration at the River Common, we honor Dr. David W. Kistler - the 2011 Mary Bevevino Community Service Award Recipient. Over his 53 year career, Dr. Kistler's leadership and influence has left an indelible footprint on our community, touching the lives of many throughout his career and his legacy of community service. Dr. Kistler was quoted as saying,"Medicine was my vocation. Education is my avocation." His Scholarship Fund at The Foundation has helped over 37 students reach their goal of attending college. He is truly a worthy recipient of this award.
I want to thank out Annual Meeting sponsors. Without them, this major event at the River Common would not be possible. The River Common is a wonderful community space and we are proud, through friends and donors of The Foundation, to support the programs presented here all summer long.
The Luzerne Foundation's impact on the community for 17 years is a reflection of your heart and caring. We intend to continue our leadership in bringing the community together to seek solutions, from collaborations and foster greater giving. Thank you for being a part of that commitment.
